BACHELOR OF EDUCATION(B.Ed)

The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) is a Two-Year (4 Semester) Full-Time programme aimed at developing the understanding and competencies required by practicing teachers for effective teaching-learning process at the secondary stage. This programme prepares prospective teachers to understand the psychological and sociological aspects of the child’s development and also understand his behavior under different conditions. The course work combined with rigorous practice of teaching prepares teacher trainees to master the art of teaching and the ability to deal with students based on their individual differences in various classroom situations.

Objectives of B.Ed. Programme

  • To prepare dedicated teachers for improvement of the school education system in the country.
  • To adopt modern techniques for teaching skill development.
  • To train the student teacher towards achieving excellence on academic, social, mental, physical, moral, and cultural fronts.
  • To provide opportunities to enhance their competence and knowledge construction abilities in creating positive learning atmosphere in schools.
  • To sensitize the stakeholders on the issues related to environmental protection

Curriculum

The Syllabus and Courses of study in the B.Ed. programme are as prescribed by the College from time to time and also governed by its regulations/statutes. The Broad guidelines of the course are as prescribed by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE). The B.Ed. course is of Two Years duration and is divided into four semesters. The candidate has to complete the course with all the components (Theory as well as Internship) in a maximum period of three years from the date of admission to the course.

Eligibility

Admission shall be open to those candidates who have passed their Bachelor’s Degree (10+2+3 pattern) and / or Master’s Degree with 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST candidates) in the Faculty of Arts, Science, Social Science, Commerce or Faculty of Music and Fine Arts from the University of Jammu.

No. of Seats

The number of seats to the B. Ed. Course shall be 150. The selection of candidates shall be made on the basis of academic merit of the qualifying examination or as prescribed by the competent authority from time to time.

Attendance

A student shall be eligible for End-Semester Examination if he/she has attended not less than 80% of the lectures delivered in theory including seminars etc. in each course and 90% of the internship/field work etc.

Fees & Other Charges

The candidates admitted to the B.Ed. Course are required to deposit fee and other charges as prescribed by the college, the details of which can be had from the admissions office. Fees and other charges are revised by the College from time to time. Difference in amount if any will have to be paid as and when demanded by the college authorities.

Awards of Degree

The Degree shall be awarded to the successful candidates by the University of Jammu. However, the Marks Certificates, Provisional Certificates and Migration Certificates shall be issued by the College.

Uniform/Dress Code

All the B. Ed trainees will wear the prescribed college uniform on the days proposed by the College .The prescribed uniform is as under:

Women Cell
The biggest challenge in a women’s life is to teach them that they are capable of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual strength; we should learn to honor our inner self. This is addressed in the forum of ‘Women Cell’ which was established during the year 2012 headed by coordinator  Jyoti Sharma, M.A(Hindi), B.Ed. with the objective to facilitate a gender sensitive and congenial environment at Bhartiya College of Education. Topics dealing with female foeticide to educational status of families are dealt with the students also go on field trips to gain practical knowledge

Heritage club aims to create and stimulate awareness among students for the preservation of the culture and nature heritage of India and respect that knowledge of past experience and skills.
The aim of these programmes is to make citizens aware of their role in conservation and preservation of our natural, cultural and living heritage.

Picnics/ Educational Tours
Picnics/Educational Tours are organized by the college every year.
Identity card
An identity card will be issued to every student admitted to the college. This card is to be carried by a student at all times in the college campus and shall have to be produced on demand by any member of the college staff anywhere in the college premises.
The loss of identity card shall be reported immediately to the college authority. The new identity card shall not be ordinarily issued. However, after proper verification a duplicate card may be issued against the payment of Rs. 100/-.
Identity card must be returned at the end of academic session.
